The Unborn
directed by, David S. Goyer
The release date is set for January 9th. I don’t know about
you, but all this Santa business and New Year celebration
has left me completely ready for a good horror. Some are saying its
crap, some are saying it’s good. Personally I can’t wait to see it.
check this out...
Okay, so I am going to come out of the closet. I’m addicted to the Twilight book series, by
Stephenie Meyer. I love a trend, don’t hold it against me. If my 14 month old daughter was 14 years old, she would be completely embarrassed by my obsession that is parallel behavior of a hormonal and crazed teenager. I can’t help it. I started these books because I simply couldn’t take it anymore, I had to know what the fuss was all about and man, do I have it bad. I fell through the first two books and in a matter of days will be finished with the second two. I love them. So, of course, I saw the film in Auckland, New Zealand as soon as it came out.
Twilight the movie, directed by Catherine Hardwicke ((Thirteen, The Nativity Story, Lord of Dogtown, she also collaborated with Cameron Crowe and Tom Cruise on Vanilla Sky), grossed $37.5 million dollars on opening day, the biggest opening film for a female
director. But apparently Catherine Hardwicke wont be doing the sequel New Moon because of a rocky relationship with Summit Entertainment. Chris Weitz (American Pie,
About A Boy and film adaptation The Golden Compass) has signed on for New Moon.
I wish that I was writing that Twilight the movie went above and beyond my expectations
and completely delivered the greatest teenage vampire romance movie I have ever seen, but it didn’t. I did feel the love between Edward (played by Robert Pattinson -Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Little Ashes) and Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart -Panic Room, Cold Creek Manor, Into the Wild) and I will see the film again, (I have an addictive personality). Mostly I felt the film was flat. The idiosyncrasy’s of the character’s didn’t punch and in certain moments I was saying to myself, “oh my god, this is so cheesy”. I realize that Twilight vampire’s aren’t the blood and gore and perhaps i should see “Let the RIght One In” as I hear that it is a kick ass teenage vampire film. I also know that Twilight is a love story, a Romeo and Juliet with a vampire twist, I get it. I just wish the director would have fallen in love with the characters as much as I did before she signed on to do the movie.

In Bruges, written and directed by Martin McDonagh
I saw The Pillowman on Broadway in New York City a few years ago, by
Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. The Pillowman is dark comedy about
a fiction writer who is interrogated by police because of the similarities between
his gruesome fairy tales and some recent child murders. I l o v e d this play.
I knew that from that moment on I would forever follow the works of Martin
McDonagh.
In Bruges is his first feature film debut. A dark comedy/ crime thriller about two hit men, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Bredan Gleeson), who are sent away for two weeks
by their boss Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes). This canal-based city, often referred as the Venice of the North, not only provides a gorgeous back drop of gothic architecture, but also mirrors the complexity’s of the characters situation.
With nods to the 1973 classic, Don’t Look Now, directed by Nicolas Roeg,
In Bruges had me laughing my ass off and nearly crying yet white knuckling
the whole way through. One of my favorite quotes of the film being, “If I grew up on
a farm and was retarded Bruges might impress me, but I didn’t so, it doesn’t.”
Honestly, Colin Farrell is impressive. I can’t even believe that I am
writing that and I swear it’s not my undying admiration for the fecking genius of Martin McDonagh, the acting in this film brilliant and delivers. If you haven’t seen this film yet,
you can bet your sweet arse, you won’t be sorry when you do!!

Bettie Page dies in LA at 85
One of Playboy magazine’s early Playmates
and iconic figure has died. She was 85 years old.
She became one of the first models
in Playboy as a centre-fold. This raven-hair, high heeled
pin-up set the stage for the 1960’s sexual revolution.
Page disappeared for decades at the end of the ’50’s
devoting herself to Christianity. She suffered from
bouts of depression, but was rediscovered in the late’80’s
and made few public appearances to sign photographs of herself.
Rest in peace Bettie Page, you will be missed, but not forgotten.
